IN PERSON WORKSHOPS

We’re offering an amazing opportunity in April 2026 for you to study with me at my new home and studio in Charlotte, NC in an exclusive five day workshop. I’m excited to finally offer you the learning experience I’ve always dreamed of and the chance to paint side by side with me in my studio.

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to take your painting practice and art career to the next level. Spots are limited to seven artists and we expect this workshop to fill up fast; click below for more information and to register today.

Our focus for my April 2026 workshop will be color: how to create a palette that gives you a reliable and repeatable color mixing strategy for your practice. I received six years of Munsell color theory training as an apprentice to master painter Michael Aviano, and I can demystify the color conundrum with my own unique take on Munsell as a valuable and simple color mixing tool for all types of painting.

We’ll be painting a still life from photo reference featuring a complimentary, bi-hued palette. You’ll learn how to control neutralization and chroma retention, and how to use indirect painting techniques to achieve your color mixing goals.

We will provide the full painting workshop experience for you. Everything I use in my own practice will be available to you to use and experiment with from paint to palettes, making this a seamless and streamlined event.

And, at the end of each day there will be a BONUS ROUND break out session focused on studio practices and everything the professional artist needs to know. Some of the topics we’ll cover are:

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to level up your painting practice and art career. Spots are limited to seven artists and we expect this workshop to fill up fast; click below for more information and to register today.
The amazing thing about this workshop is we’re providing almost ALL the materials you’ll need! It’s a rare opportunity to try everything I use in my own practice that we’re calling a ‘try before you buy” scenario. Here’s what will be waiting for you at your painting station in my studio:

The only thing you need to bring are brushes, and we’ll give you a detailed list of the ones I love to use and links on where to find them. And of course, if there’s a brush in my studio you’d like to try it’s available to you.

If you’re flying home, we will also store your wet panel and ship it home to you after it’s dry for stress free travel, not to mention the aggravation you’ll avoid NOT going through TSA with all your painting gear.

Please contact me with questions about the materials list or workshop – I’m happy to answer!

Our daily schedule will run from 9am to around 5:30pm. Artists may arrive at 8:30am to set up early and prepare before class begins. Our days will be spent painting in the studio with a break for lunch at your own discretion. Special afternoon sessions will focus on several topics and will take place around 4pm. Artists are welcome to continue to work on their own in the studio and opt out of the focused session.

We will provide drinks and snacks throughout the workshop, and lunch on the first day. Artists are welcome to order out or bring their own meals for the rest of the workshop. Our kitchen is available to refrigerate or reheat lunch as needed.

Day One

Meet and greet with coffee and pastries, introductions, and studio set ups. Followed by PowerPoint presentation and transfer drawing / oil transfer demo. Lunch break, then discussion of bi-hued mixing strategy and making color notation charts for the painting. Next will be setting yourself up for indirect painting success with a demo on blocking in, with the remainder of the day spent painting. Special late afternoon session on working with galleries and art business discussion.

Day Two

Continue with block in and subsequent layers of painting. Afternoon demo of oil ground panel making, with students beginning the process of preparing their own panels which will be completed over the course of the workshop. Break out session on all things lighting: types of lights, diffusers, light stands and how to light your model. Cocktails and dinner out as a group at a favorite local restaurant.

Day Three

Painting, with demos and discussion focused on building paint layers, paint application and brushwork. Special afternoon session on photographing and archiving artwork, discussion of proper lighting, cameras, lenses, and how to use scanners. We revisit the oil ground panels with additional preparation steps.

Day Four

Artists continue to progress towards finishing layers of their painting. Afternoon session spent completing the oil ground panels, and a discussion of varnishes, solvents and mediums.

Day Five

Artists complete their paintings. Wrap up of workshop with cocktails and small bites.

Workshop payments are non-refundable.

If you notify us four weeks or more before the workshop start date, you can move 100% of tuition to another workshop or private mentoring sessions. Credit must be used within two years of payment date.

If you cancel within four weeks of the start date and the workshop is sold out with a waitlist and another artist can take your place, you will receive a 75% refund.

If Natalie cancels the workshop (due to low enrollment, sickness or zombie apocalypse, etc.) you will receive a full refund. However, we are not responsible for any fees incurred related to airfare or hotel reservations. We recommend getting trip insurance for your flight and booking a hotel with a flexible cancellation policy just to be on the safe side.

Please be aware we have a small dog: he’s a senior miniature schnauzer and is a very good boy! He’s hypoallergenic and will be hanging around the studio, although he doesn’t have much interest in painting.

Our April 2026 workshop is SOLD OUT!

We’d love for you to join our waitlist and be the first to know if a spot opens up in the spring. We’re considering hosting another in-person workshop in November 2026 due to demand, and the folks on our waitlist will get the first opportunity to sign up before anyone else.
